Jonathan Brodie, MD, PhD, Recognized for Excellence in Medical Care

    NEW YORK, NY, December 30, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jonathan Brodie, Physician and Professor of Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in the medical field.

Dr. Brodie has nearly 40 years of professional experience in health care. During his complex career, he has established himself as an expert in psychopharmacology, brain imaging, addiction research and schizophrenia. For many years, Dr. Brodie has pursued microPET imaging studies designed to elucidate metabolic signatures of addiction-associated behaviors in a long term collaboration with his long-time colleague, Dr. Stephen Dewey. Among other honors, he has been recognized with the Solomon Berson Distinguished Alumni Award of the NYU School of Medicine for his contributions to medical science.

Dr. Brodie is a reviewer for various neuroimaging and psychiatric journals, and has served as both a standing and ad hoc member of a number of NIH review committees. He has been a visiting investigator in the Chemistry Department of Brookhaven National Laboratories, as well as a member of the Promotions and Tenure committee of the NYU School of Medicine where he served as Interim Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and in a variety of major administrative and clinical positions. For 15 years, he was the NYU Director of the Brookhaven National Laboratory/NYU School of Medicine consortium investigating the use of positron emitters and PET imaging in neuroscience and psychiatry.

Building on his training and career in biochemistry, Dr. Brodie completed Residency training in psychiatry at NYU/ Bellevue Medical Center in 1978, where he received an MD in 1975. He became Board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology in 1979. Dr. Brodie was recently inducted into Worldwide while continuing to be a Distinguished life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the American college of Psychiatrists..

Dr. Brodie was named One of America's Leading Experts on Schizophrenia. He has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area for the last 15 consecutive years. He was honored for the organization's 10th Anniversary Top Doctors in 2010 and was celebrated among the NY Metro Area's Top Doctors in Psychiatry in number of editions. Dr. Brodie and was featured several times in New York Magazine as a Top Doctor in metro New York. Finally, he is an active practicing psychiatrist who treats mood and anxiety disorders and consults on the application of neuroimaging in forensics.
