WellMed Physician Dr. Joseph Gonzalez To Light Up Alamo City For New Year's Eve

    SAN ANTONIO, TX, January 01, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- San Antonio native Dr. Joseph Gonzalez, lead physician at WellMed at Ingram, will set off the biggest fireworks show in Texas on Wednesday night for the city's official New Year's Eve party "Celebrate San Antonio."

This is the first year the city has auctioned off the "fireworks starter" honor. WellMed's donation will benefit the non-profit San Antonio Parks Foundation, which produces "Celebrate San Antonio" with the city and several partners. More than a quarter million people are expected in downtown San Antonio for the largest free New Year's Eve festival in Texas.

WellMed submitted the winning bid of $3,300 on Tuesday (Dec. 30) so a representative from one of its 26 San Antonio-area clinics could light up the San Antonio sky to mark the start of 2015. WellMed, founded in San Antonio by Chairman and CEO Dr. George Rapier, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015.

"This opportunity to kick off WellMed's 25th anniversary and help San Antonio usher in 2015 was too good to pass up," said Dr. Carlos Hernandez, President of WellMed Medical Group, made up of more than 350 healthcare providers. "Plus it helps a great cause that is improving outdoor parks and recreation in our community, making them more accessible to everyone including the more than 60,000 older patients we serve in the San Antonio region."

Dr. Gonzalez, who has treated senior patients for WellMed at its Ingram clinic for more than a decade, was raised on the Southeast Side of San Antonio. The 39-year-old father of three is a graduate of St. Gerard's Catholic High School. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. Dr. Gonzalez is Board Certified in Family Practice, and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
