CAMBRIDGE, MD, January 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Interstate Container will showcase Greencoat wax-free, strong, sustainable and cost-efficient corrugated boxes at Booth # 435/437 during SE Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference 2015, January 9 - 10 in Savannah, Georgia, USA. During SE Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference 2015, Interstate Container representatives will discuss the strength and water resistance of the pioneering coated Greencoat wax-free boxes.
The strong and cost saving alternative to wax packaging, offers produce retailers and growers moisture-resistance and durability, while reducing costs and carbon footprint. Booth visitors can get to know the #ElephantInTheRoom, learn about the 100% recyclable Greencoat wax-free, water-resistant, coated corrugated boxes, as well as schedule side-by-side trials with their current packaging.
Greencoat boxes offer growers and packers a coated, wax-free box to pack, protect and effectively deliver fragile fruits and vegetables, such as cabbage, cucumbers, eggplant, peaches, peppers, squash, tomatoes, and yams, in addition to seedlings.
Tested Strength & Water Resistance. Greencoat boxes are moisture and temperature-resistant, and strong enough to package and transport fresh produce and other refrigerated and frozen products. This recyclable box can endure shifts from cold-to-hot, rough handling, long trips, as well as transport iced products without sacrificing strength or performance. Interstate Container ensures that all produce boxes feature A-flute single-wall, providing greater compression strength.
Interstate Container invested 5 years of R&D and customer trials to develop customizable Greencoat wax-free boxes. The manufacturer continuously launches trials to test the water-resistant box's performance under the most severe shipping conditions. Greencoat boxes are 10% stronger than traditional wax coated boxes.
During a recent Global Green USA 'Save-A-Lot' trial with North Hampton Growers, Greencoat boxes successfully shipped four pallets with 50 lbs of cabbage per box across a 751 mile shipping route from Moultrie, GA to St. Louis, MO. During the trial on December 1, 2014, Greencoat boxes were shipped alongside wax boxes with results demonstrating that the wax-free packaging withstood shipping conditions and arrived at the destination in the same good condition as the environmentally harmful counterpart.
Demonstrated Cost Saving. By using Greencoat boxes, the retail industry and restaurant sector will cut or avoid landfill disposal costs ranging from $65-$125 / ton (tipping fees & pull). 'Retailers and restaurants could realize a net benefit of combined cost savings and revenue generation of $200 million nationwide' - Global Green USA CoRR.
Interstate Container also assigns expert engineers to work with customers to develop "right size" customized packaging that builds strength while reducing costs.
Anne Vogul, Assistant Manager Retail Operations, stated during the Save-A-Lot-Trial, "These boxes are great for us on many levels. They take waste out of our waste room which allows us to reduce dumpster size. We also get to recycle the boxes which add a little bit of additional revenue for us. And in many cases these boxes can be cheaper than the present wax box that we are paying for so it is a win, win, win for everybody!"
Proven Sustainability. Greencoat wax-free boxes are FBA-certified 100% recyclable, repulpable, and compostable. The eco-friendly box reduces environmentally-harmful greenhouse gas emissions generated from burning unrecyclable corrugated packaging. Since shifting nearly 100% of its 500 million square feet of boxes to Greencoat , Mountaire Farms has reduced 150,000 mtCO2/annually.
According to Global Green USA CoRR, fresh produce, meats and seafood producers generate 1.45 million tons of solid waste from paraffin-coated cardboard alone. Thus, an industry shift to recyclable corrugated packaging could reduce America's annual carbon emissions by 4.5 million mtCO2e.
