LOS ALTOS, CA, January 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nixie, the first wearable camera that flies, gave its first live public demonstration at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Cofounders of Nixie CEO Christoph Kohstall and COO Jelena Jovanovic shared the stage with Intel CEO Brian Krzanich for the Intel Keynote on the first day of CES 2015. With a gesture from Kohstall, Nixie took flight from his hand, took a photo of him with Krzanich and Jovanovic, and returned, all before the audience of thousands.
"Nixie is unique because of the ease of use - there's absolutely no remote," said Kohstall. "It has sensors to give it awareness of space, so all you need to do is flick it in the direction you want your photo from, and it flies away, turns around, and captures that image with no other effort from you. Nixie allows you to capture the moment without interrupting the moment, or needing to pose. "
Just two months ago, Nixie (http://flynixie.com) won Intel's Make It Wearable Challenge. The grand prize was $500,000. "We are spending the money on hiring, and making the product smaller and more beautiful," shared Jovanovic. Technical development has progressed to to a point where the prototype is capable of fully autonomous flight, which was demonstrated on stage.
Nixie spent the rest of CES 2015 in the Intel Pavilion. Throughout CES, they were visited by consumer electronics professionals who showed interest in buying, distributing, or working on the device.
Nixie is still in development. There is currently no release date. Interested consumers can sign up for updates at http://flynixie.com as the team progresses towards manufactoring and general availability.
