You can ask, "I think it's time we get to know each other better, don't you agree?" Wait for the response. If it is a "Yes" then you know you can proceed in asking for that first date. Suggest doing something together based on your mutual interests. This could include biking, hiking, bowling, seeing a movie, or just going to a favorite coffee house for lunch.
