MANNHEIM, GERMANY, January 16, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The idea of the Internet of Things is that devices, software and cloud services communicate effectively, efficiently and securely across multiple ecosystems, but as of now this is just a dream. Multiple standards, data structures and interfaces from numerous vendors prevent true interoperability.
Today CloudRail, a provider of interoperability solutions, announced a seed investment of EUR540k from Leonardo Venture, Beteiligungsfonds Wirtschaftsförderung Mannheim GmbH (BWM GmbH) and strategic business angels to solve this problem. The funding will enable the company to expand its existing technology with a new, truly unique approach to solve the IoT interoperability challenge - the CloudRail adaptive universal interface (API) allowing developers to connect to multiple cloud services or devices through one single API. The system manages all conversions between the different communication standards automatically.
"We are excited about the market disruption potential of CloudRail. The number of devices and appliances coming online will expand exponentially over the next years and software developers will need to connect and integrate them to drive value for users. CloudRail has the chance to become the leader in this Interoperability space," said Marc Langner, Investment Manager at Leonardo Venture.
Existing solutions in the market have been taking a legacy approach by inserting themselves in the middle of the connection. They can't scale when more devices become 'smart', present a security risk to users and are rather costly for customers. All communication between CloudRail enabled apps and devices is in contrary through peer to peer communications. The solution enables devices to connect by providing each endpoint with the ability to communicate, authenticate, and to automatically adapt to the the data formats of each other. CloudRail's patent-pending technology offers customers unlimited scale, ultimate security and high performance.
Verena Eisenlohr, Managing Director of BWM GmbH, the startup fund of the city of Mannheim, said "One of our key investment objectives is to grow and maintain local entrepreneurial talent in promising growth markets. We are pleased that CloudRail will be headquartered in the city of Mannheim and welcome them to our vibrant startup community."
CloudRail officially launched an initial Cloud Storage focused interoperability solution in December. Software developers can download and implement this API solution for free from http://www.CloudRail.com. There is also a premium version of the product for larger environments available.
