Go Daddy's Pulled Super Bowl Puppy Ad Appalling Says RCBA President Hue Grant

Canine Breeding Reform Group Calls for Rescue Groups and Pet Owners to Host Websites Elsewhere

Rescue groups and pet owners with Go Daddy hosted sites should move them to hosts that don't advertise in ways that promote the worst aspects of online dog sales.

FORT WORTH, TX, January 28, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Go Daddy's Super Bowl advertisements have always been edgy and tacky. This year's ad, however, goes beyond bad taste. "It's appalling," said, Reform Canine Breeding and Auctions (RCBA) President Hue Grant.

In the original spot that Go Daddy has now pulled, a golden retriever puppy falls from the back of a moving pickup truck. It races home for a heartfelt reunion with a dog breeder, who, thanks to her Go-Daddy-hosted website, ships puppies to owners all over the United States. She boxes the puppy up and ships him to her buyer.

The Chief Creative Officer of advertising agency Barton Graf 9000, Gerry Graf, said Go Daddy's puppy spot is "provocative with a purpose" and that it is "anything but your standard inspirational commercial."

"I am stunned that someone at Go Daddy didn't see a problem with airing a 4-million-dollar Super Bowl spot that features a puppy thrown from a moving truck and a breeder whose only concern upon getting it back seems to be completing an online sale," said Hue Grant, President of Reform Canine Breeding and Auctions.

"People who know the problems at the worst run dog breeding operations aren't likely to be amused by Go Daddy's attempt to spoof cute puppy ads," said Grant.

"Rescue groups and pet owners with Go Daddy hosted sites should move them to hosts that don't advertise in ways that promote the worst aspects of online dog sales," said Grant.

"The ad should be a caution to puppy buyers who might be tempted to buy from a breeder over the Internet without seeing the breeder's kennel or knowing about the living conditions of the parents of their new puppy," said Felicia Elfenbein, RCBA's Director of Social Media.

Grant added, "We want all dogs treated humanely, shown kindness, and bred only using medically sound practices and view registration of dog breeders as the first step toward that goal."
