HUDSON, MA, January 30, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harvard Sweet Boutique invites the public to its storefront to support Boston Children's Hospital patient Keelan Peterson during a free light lunch and dessert tasting event Friday, Feb. 13. Bakery owner and founder Sue George is running in the 2015 Boston Marathon to raise funds for the Boston Children's Hospital Miles for Miracles team. As part of the race, Sue will run in honor of Keelan Peterson.
The tasting event, which runs from noon to 4 p.m., is free of charge and attendees are encouraged to make a $10 donation at the door. In addition to sampling the bakery's mealtime savories, locals will also be able to try a selection of made-from-scratch treats including cupcakes, cookies, brownies and more, many of which will be themed for Valentine's Day.
In addition, a special cookie designed in honor of Boston Children's Hospital will be available during the event with a portion of proceeds from purchases donated back to the Children's Fund. The heart-shaped sugar cookies will be on sale at the bakery until the Boston Marathon, April 20, to continue fundraising efforts. For those who are unable to attend the event and would still like to contribute, gift packages will be offered online that include the special cookie plus six decorated heart-shaped shortbread cookies in a heart-themed gift box. A portion of proceeds from online purchases of the gift packages will also benefit the Children's Fund.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd run in the Boston Marathon," says George. "But here I am, months into my training and a member of the Boston Children's Hospital Miles for Miracles team. I'm incredibly honored to run for Keelan Peterson, my patient partner. I hope the Hudson community will join me in supporting her at the bakery for this special tasting. Keelan is planning to be at the event to thank and meet her supporters as well!"
Peterson was born with a complex congenital heart defect and her parents were told that the doctors would make her comfortable until she passed. They took Keelan to Boston Children's Hospital where they regained hope after a second opinion. Now a lively seven year old, Peterson is able to play sports and have a fun childhood, but continues to need operations. Donations from the tasting will go directly to the Children's Fund to help Keelan and children just like her.
People can donate directly to the cause at the event or by visiting, Fundraise.ChildrensHospital.org/GoTo/SueGeorge. Additionally, George has set up an online silent auction where bidders have the chance to win Boston Celtics game tickets, artwork, and more. All monies raised from the silent auction will also be donated to the Children's Fund. Anyone can participate in the silent auction running Feb. 1 to 13 at the following link: http://www.32auctions.com/harvardsweetboutique.
