Julius Shulman, MD, Honored for Excellence in Health Care

    NEW YORK, NY, February 05, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julius Shulman, MD, Founder of Eastside Eye Associates, has been recognized for his dedicated patient care, outstanding clinical knowledge, and exceptional cataract and laser surgical skills. From the simple task of prescribing eyeglasses to patients who cannot see, to the most technologically advanced laser assisted cataract surgery in patients who also cannot see, Dr. Shulman's clinical and surgical skills fuel the engine of his modern day ophthalmology practice.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr. Shulman attended Brooklyn College and SUNY Downstate Medical School. After finishing his ophthalmology residency in 1975 at Mt. Sinai Hospital, out of Brooklyn but happily still in New York, Dr. Shulman started what was to become Eastside Eye Associates on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Over the course of his nearly 40 years in practice, Dr. Shulman has had several major accomplishments, devoted patient care notwithstanding. He pioneered the use of intraocular lenses during cataract surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital, as well as two forms of sterile technique that are now standard practice during thousands of eye operations. He has been on several medical missions, two to India and four to Peru, volunteering his time to help bring sight to those that are blind or otherwise less fortunate.

Dr. Shulman's two books, "Cataracts: The Complete Guide - From Diagnosis to Recovery - for Patients and Families," originally published by Simon and Schuster, and "No More Glasses - The Complete Guide to Laser Vision Correction," published by iUniverse, were the first books in their field to help patients make a truly informed decision on cataract and laser vision surgery.

Dr. Shulman was also honored as a Best Doctor in "New York" magazine, and a Top Doctor in the "New York Times" and in Castle Connolly.
