There is nothing in the world quite like calling up a charity organization and telling them they are going to receive $10,000. Simply amazing. It gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes...
TAMPA, FL, February 09, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Dr. Randy Feldman as the 152nd Lightning Community Hero during the first period of the February 7, 2015 home ice game against the Los Angeles Kings. Feldman, Chief Smile Officer of Feldman Orthodontics, who received a $50,000 donation from the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation and the Tampa Bay Lightning Community Heroes program, will donate the money to five local non-profits: More Health, Inc; Voices for Children; Humane Society of Tampa Bay; The Vincent House; and Friedrich's Ataxia Research Alliance.
Dr. Randy Feldman, has been in Orthodontic practice for over 32 years in Tampa and was nominated for the honor because of his consistent dedication and support to local charities and community causes.
The five non-profits selected by Feldman include Voices for Children, of which he is a Guardian ad Litem and past Vice President. Their mission is to provide support and advocacy for the abused, neglected, and abandoned children in our community.
More Health, of which Dr. Feldman is Board Chair, will also be supported by this donation. This nonprofit trains part time school teachers to deliver interactive, exciting health education and safety lessons to students, at no charge to school districts, through funding from local businesses, foundations, and state and federal grants.
Vincent House, Pinellas Park, is a third beneficiary. Their purpose is to assist, promote and celebrate individuals recovering from mental illnesses in their effort to improve social and vocational skills and become employed in the community.
Dr. Feldman also chose to support FARA, Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance. Friedreich's ataxia is a debilitating, life-shortening, degenerative neuro-muscular disorder that strikes about one in 50,000 people in the United States. FARA is supporting research that will improve the quality and length of life for those diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia and will lead to treatments that eliminate its symptoms.
Local animals will also benefit from the donation, as Humane Society of Tampa Bay is the fifth charity. This organization is dedicated to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort for companion animals in need.
Dr. Feldman stated that he is "Extremely honored and humbled! This is an amazing opportunity afforded to me by Mr. Jeff Vinik, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the 13 Ugly Men foundation to continue to provide support and do good things for our Tampa Bay Community. There is nothing in the world quite like calling up a charity organization and telling them they are going to receive $10,000. Simply amazing. It gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes at the same time! I know...what a wimp. (:))"
