ANN ARBOR, Ml, February 13, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steven M. Donn, MD, FAAP, Professor of Pediatrics and Staff Neonatologist at Mott Children's Hospital, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics.
Dr. Donn has become internationally recognized for his knowledge of respiratory failure in newborns. He joined Mott Children's Hospital in 1978 after obtaining a medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and completing a pediatric residency at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, followed by a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the University of Michigan Health System. His clinical interests include high-technology respiratory support, neonatal neurologic problems, hyperammonemia and neonatal transport.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Donn has authored more than 200 medical articles, edited 27 books and journals, and written more than 200 book chapters. He has also produced various educational materials on the subjects of neonatal respiratory complications, high-technology respiratory support and hypoxic-ischemic brain injury of the newborn. Dr. Donn is a popular research presenter at conferences, who has taught neonatal intensive care internationally. He has also served as a consultant for various pharmaceutical companies, health care management corporations and medical device manufacturers. In addition to his work at Mott Children's Hospital, Dr. Donn served on the FDA Specialty Panel for Respiratory and Anesthesia Devices and was an American Academy of Pediatrics liaison to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology's Liability Committee. He served on the American Academy of Pediatrics'Committee on Medical Liability and Risk Management for 10 years, chairing it for the last four.
Recently inducted into Worldwide Registry, Dr. Donn also maintains affiliation with the American Board of Pediatrics, the Sub-Board of Neonatal Perinatal Medicine, the American Pediatric Society, Society for Pediatric Research and the European Society for Pediatric Research. Many of these organizations have recognized him with awards for his service, and Child Magazine named him a Pediatrician Who Makes a Difference. Dr. Donn is the editor and chief of Seminars in Fetal & Neonatal Medicine, a bi-monthly journal, which publishes topic-based issues. Presently, he is working on the 4th edition of his Manual of Neonatal Respiratory Care.
