ALBANY, NY, February 17, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mrs. Mary Lou Parker is Grand Chief with the Eastern Woodland Métis Nation of Nova Scotia. The Métis Nation defines Métis as: A person of mixed blood; specifically: a person of European and North American Indian ancestry, regardless of how many generations it can be traced back.
The Métis Nation of Nova Scotia was founded to assist individuals in finding their native heritage and embracing their roots. Additionally, it helps its people reach their full potential; realizing Economic, Cultural, Social and Spiritual wellness while becoming more economically independent and self reliant.
Mary Lou is one of the founders of the Eastern Woodlands Métis Nation of Nova Scotia, a tribe of over 16,000. Mrs. Parker had the honor of having the title Grand Chief bestowed upon her after the death of her husband and predecessor, Albert Parker. She is assisted by Chief Gilbert Parker. Mary Lou continues her work with the aboriginal status and genealogy of the tribe. Grand Chief Mary Lou Parker has signed a treaty with the United Nations with Chief Walter Pressley. This treaty is for all countries who have not received recognition from their governments. It is called Native Nations Intergovernmental Alliance (NNIAT) and was authorized by Chief Walter "WR" Pressley.
As Grand Chief, Mrs. Parker educates and moves the Nation forward, helping all its people live a well balanced, full life. She fund raises to support the Nation's endeavors and works towards their goal of erecting a Cultural Center. The hope of this center is to promote the understanding between the Métis/Aboriginal people and all non-Aboriginal peoples through education and understanding.
Mary Lou Parker is a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was nominated in 2013 for the Governor General's Medal in Leadership. Mrs. Parker was the past president of the Atlantic Provinces Korean Veteran's Association and continues to help out when needed.
Through her leadership and accomplishments in the field of Tribal Leadership and Government, Mary Lou Parker is constantly moving the Eastern Woodland Métis Nation of Nova Scotia closer to their goals and the non-Aboriginals closer in their understanding.
