Cohen, Chairman and CEO of New York-based Cohen Media Group, has been honored with the Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) for his commitment and contributions to the French culture in the US. Mr. Cohen will be presented with the insignia of Chevalier dans l'ordre des arts et lettres at a ceremony at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York on March 12.
The Order of Arts and Letters was established in 1957 to recognize eminent artists and writers, as well as people who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world. The Order of Arts and Letters is given out under the jurisdiction of the French Minister of Culture and Communication. American recipients of the award include Paul Auster, Ornette Coleman, Agnes Gund, Marilyn Horne, Jim Jarmusch, Richard Meier, Robert Paxton, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman.
Charles S. Cohen, who last year was honored with the National Order of Merit by the French government, said: "French cinema has been a great joy and inspiration to me for many years, and I am proud to play some part in bringing the best French films to American audiences. I am honored to receive this recognition."
