She is widely known throughout the field as an expert in conducting training sessions on ethics and team building.
YUMA, AZ, March 16, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Hoffman, Deputy Chief of Yuma County Adult Probation Department, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.
Ms. Hoffman has 31 years of professional experience, with five years of experience as the deputy chief of the Yuma County Adult Probation Department. She is widely known throughout the field as an expert in conducting training sessions on ethics and team building, and she frequently coordinates her efforts with other agencies. On a daily basis, Ms. Hoffman supervises approximately 90 employees, including administrative staff and officers who work in the pre-sentence, pretrial, intensive and standard probation units.
Ms. Hoffman's ability to research factors that affect her clients, such as national and state issues, outside of the general research given to her about her clients, are what separates her from her peers. She feels that those in her field need to see these forces coming and have a plan to handle them.
Looking back, Ms. Hoffman attributes her success to her parents, who taught her to put all of her effort into everything that she does. She became involved in her profession because she liked helping people, as well as holding them accountable for their behavior. She believes that people can learn from their mistakes and change. The highlight of her career was becoming deputy chief. She had retired and thought that her dream of becoming deputy chief at Yuma County Adult Probation would never come true. Subsequently, she went to work for the Yuma County Planning and Zoning Department and the Sheriff's Department. When the deputy chief position opened up in Adult Probation, she applied, and the rest is history.
Ms. Hoffman completed master level coursework in adult and higher education in 1986, and a Bachelor of Arts in social welfare from Arizona State University, where she graduated with honors in 1975. In addition to her degrees, she received a lifetime teaching certificate. She is a certified instructor through Arizona Community College and a certified trainer through the National Institute of Corrections and the Arizona Supreme Court. She receives training at conferences sponsored by the American Probation and Parole Association and seminars conducted by the Rockhurst University Continuing Education Center, Inc. In recognition of her excellence within the field, particularly regarding her leadership abilities, she is regularly nominated for supervisor of the year awards, which she has received in 2004, 2007 and 2011. In five years, Ms. Hoffman will either continue to be deputy chief or advance to chief of the probation department.
