RICHMOND, VA, April 02, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In honor of Autism Awareness Month this April, Commonwealth Autism would like to share their program, The Founders Center (TFC), and the services it provides with the community.
The Founders Center of Commonwealth Autism began as The Dominion School for Autism in 2004. Its new name was adopted in November 2014 in celebration of Commonwealth Autism's 20th anniversary.
The Founders Center provides a full-day, year round educational experience for individuals 2-21 years of age with autism. The core curriculum used at TFC is the Competent Learner Model (CLM), which is based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). ABA is widely recognized as the "gold standard" for autism intervention. CLM provides a framework of assessment, training, and instruction for their teachers and staff.
• The preschool programs offer a full inclusion experience by being embedded within typical preschools. This model is unique to The Founders Center.
• The school age program meets individual student needs with a life skills curriculum.
Through an ongoing partnership with Capital One, The Founders Center has received technology donations, school beautification, and support towards The Autism Grant. The goal of the Autism Grant is to make an intensive program of this nature as affordable as possible to TFC families. The Founders Center, a 501 3 organization, also accepts donations from individual donors, local businesses and organizations throughout the year. The ability to donate and a list of current needs can be found on their website. All donations are both tax deductible and eligible for corporate matches.
The Founders Center has partnered with Center of the Universe Brewing Company in Ashland, VA for a Basket Bingo and Beer fundraising event May 30th from 2:00 pm - 6:00pm. Visit http://www.thefounderscenter.org for more information.
