The hourly rate for young workers is also going to increase and apprentices will now get paid GBP3.30 an hour, which is an increase of 20%. The Low Pay Commission recommended the increase and the Government chose to increase the minimum wage further for apprentices. The 3% increase in the national minimum wage for adult workers is the biggest real terms rise in 7 years (bbc.co.uk 17th March 2015). However, some do not feel that this increase is enough and Unions are concerned that it will not address 'in work poverty'.
