"We do more alternative rock with pop lyrics and more catchy choruses, but still maintain our identity with what we do in the progressive realm."
LOS ANGELES, CA, April 02, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The outstanding and impassioned Los Angeles-based rock band Daphne's Roots is announcing their new single and EP, "Until We Fight Back." The single will release April 26 and the EP will release by the end of the summer.
Succeeding the group's acclaimed 2013 progressive rock album, "The Voyage," Daphne's Roots is taking on a more rock and roll flavor while delving into political and personal themes on "Until We Fight Back."
"The Voyage is a rock opera," says Daphne's Roots founder, composer and keyboardist Jose Antonio Roman. "It's the story of two heroes' journeys, a completely concept album. All the songs and lyrics are connected. Until We Fight Back talks about freedom of speech issues. It's all about protecting free speech and about expressing yourself. The next album is also about facing sentimental issues and life challenges."
Established in 2011, Daphne's Roots features the talents of South Americans Jose Antonio Roman (keyboards/orchestration), Daniel Silva (rhythm guitar), Felipe Restrepo (drums), Kevin Lambertucci (bass) and Manuel Sambour (former lead guitar and singer). After Sambour's departure, Andrea Sandoval stepped in for vocal duties. The band is named after the Greek mythology character, Daphne, and "The Voyage" is a modern story inspired by the all time classic "The Birth of Tragedy" by Friedrich Nietzsche.
Part Muse part Radiohead part Dream Theater and with Foo Fighter and Pink Floyd qualities, Daphne's Roots has rocked their way on to some of the world's most legendary stages including their crowd-pleasing live performances at the Whisky a Go Go, the House of Blues Sunset Strip, The Viper Room, Molly Malones, The Joint and Rainbow Bar. The band also performed at the 2014 NAMM Show sponsored by Peavy Electronics at the Anaheim Convention Center.
"We come from different backgrounds," said Silva, guitarist and native of Bogota, Colombia. "We all love rock, but we've played funk and jazz. There's also a lot of classical influences on the piano."
Roman, a more than 10-year classical pianist and keyboardist from Quito, Ecuador, said, "Chopin is my favorite composer of all time. In our previous album, we even covered one of his pieces. The way I see it: there's pure beauty and magical simplicity in classical music. Classical melodies can be incorporated in a rock band. It's just a matter to accommodate the ingredients."
When the ingredients harmonize, Daphne's Roots delivers "incredibly well thought out music," says Silva, who doubles as a prolific post-production sound designer.
"We do more alternative rock with pop lyrics and more catchy choruses, but still maintain our identity with what we do in the progressive realm," he said. "We're not trying to reproduce something that's already out there. People will hear our influences and hear our uniqueness, and what we're trying to do with our music."
Known for his top-echelon ability as a keyboardist and composer, Roman wrote all the music and lyrics for the band with a couple exceptions like the singles "Escape" and "We Don't Belong Here" from "The Voyage," which he co-wrote with fellow ex-band mate Manuel Sambour. He has also flashed his flair for song and lyric writing through the publishing of his two poetry books - "Preludio" (2007) and "Sombras en el Cielo" (2013).
Roman's other songwriting and performance achievements include in the acclaimed progressive-rock band "Memento" from Ecuador (2008-2010) as songwriter and keyboardist. He wrote piano music for well-known Swedish singer/songwriter Sahandra Sundstrom. Roman also played keys for Colombian sensation band "Laura y la maquina de escribir" (2010), for the renowned Swiss singer/songwriter Scilla Siekmann (2012), with Greek pop star Ilia Darlin (2015) and many others.
He composed film music for the short animated feature, "Bianca" (2013), directed by Alejandro Olivares, which premiered at "1er festival internacional de cine universitario Ficunach" and for "The moe" (2013), directed by Mariana Novo. Roman's also currently working on his first piano solo album that's expected to be released later this year.
"It's great having such an accomplished, skilled and dedicated talent as Jose leading our band," Silva said. "I really enjoy playing music alongside him and our fans and listeners are the beneficiaries of his differing musical dimensions and unrivaled skill."
The multi-talented Silva sound engineered "The Voyage" and will return to engineer on "Until We Fight Back." He composed film music for the forthcoming feature, "Dangerous Games," starring former WWE superstar John Hennigan. Silva previously sound designed and sound mixed for the films "40 Hours," "Cassandra's Left Hand," "Borrowed Time," "Catching Fireflies," "About Him," "Beyond Forever," "From Nowhere" and "Sacrament."
Silva also performed as lead guitarist earlier this year for "Twinkle Time," a family music show produced by actress and singer Alitzah Wiener ("Sanchez of Bel-Air," "My 2 Dads"). Wiener was a founding member and singer with the all-girl group, Nobody's Angel, that toured with Britney Spears and The Backstreet Boys, and received a gold record for their two hits on the "Princess Diaries" soundtrack.
"Daniel's a great guitar player," Roman said. "He's very important in the rhythm aspect. He will lay down the rhythms I wrote and he will add some of his own texture and bite to the music. We have a good chemistry and he's good in understanding my vision in what the song's supposed to be."
"Until We Fight Back" is expected to release as a single/EP combo complete with its music video that will shoot soon. The record will release through digital distributors including Spotify, iTunes, CD Baby and more.
