National Association of Distinguished Professionals Selects Maxine Billings as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

    TEMPLE, GA, April 12, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maxine Billings, Published Author, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through the National Association of Distinguished Professionals. Ms. Billings will be featured in the upcoming edition of the NADP Women of Distinction Magazine in 2015.

Never truly considering writing as a career choice until her cousin Jacquelin Thomas became a published author in the late 1990's, Maxine Billings always loved reading and writing. So inspired by her cousin, she began writing her first manuscript in 1999 and completed it in early 2000. Receiving some rejections from publishers who thought it did not meet their current needs, she then began to write a completely new story, one that took just about a year to finish. At about the same time her cousin's publisher, BET Books was due to come out with a new imprint, 'New Spirit', she suggested that she submit her story to them. Submitting it in November 2001, she received a call back one year later telling her that they were interested in publishing her story. 'A Measure of Faith' was released in April 2004.

"Even though I have been a published author for 11 years now, I have now been a self-published author for five of those years," Ms. Billings said. "What that basically means is that I publish my own books in addition to writing them. Everything that has to be done I do myself. Not only do I write and publish my own stories, but I also do my own research, proofreading, editing, book covers, publicity, book signings, and whatever else is required."

Thanks to her dear cousin Jacquelin, Ms. Billings has been able to tap into a profession that has always been dear to her heart and in so many wonderful ways that she has never dreamed of.

A native of Villa Rica, Georgia, Ms. Billings now resides in Temple, Georgia with her husband and their two children. In 2004, her book 'A Measure of Faith' was ranked number three on Cushcity.com's list of fictional bestsellers. In 2005, 'A Test of Faith' was released and she was selected as a featured author at the Essence Music Festival. That same year, 'Thicker Than Water', an anthology that contains her short story, 'A Healing of the Hearts', was an Essence bestseller.
