BUFFALO, NY, April 19, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The 7th annual Policymaker's Breakfast, organized by the Mental Health Peer Connection, took place Friday morning at Templeton Landing on Buffalo's Lake Erie waterfront.
The New York State Mental Health Commissioner, Dr. Ann Sullivan, spoke to attendees regarding programs, funding, and needs assessments, taking questions from several local agencies represented.
Artelia Lewis from WNY Independent Living presented the 3rd Annual Cheryl Davidson Humanitarian Award to Suzanne Perry, Founder of Love Shouldn't Hurt.TV and President of Wild Women Unite Buffalo. The award is in recognition of outstanding humanitarian contributions to the community. Ms. Perry is an enthusiastic and emphatic speaker and advocate for men and women impacted by domestic violence, as she was a victim of it for 22 years.
"How amazing to be placed in this room with the core of those who are making a difference. I had the opportunity to share a bit of who I am and what I do, and to thank them for this award, and I received a standing ovation. I almost didn't notice, it felt like I was dreaming. These are the key people I need to connect with, I'm so grateful!"
Ms. Perry also reports she has been offered numerous spaces to facilitate her support group efforts as well as two future speaking engagements.
Love Shouldn't Hurt.TV is a 501(c)3 that provides education and awareness about domestic violence to prevent further societal decay, including events, presentations, group help and workshops.
