KANSAS CITY, MO, April 19, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lee's Summit High School's Team Driven is at it again! The Lee's Summit High School's robotics team, Team Driven #1730, is headed to the FIRST Championship, which is a culmination of the season's FIRST programs, and bringing together three separate robotics competitions for the ultimate Sport for the Mind.
"Our GoFundMe campaign, combined with other fund raising efforts has brought in more than ten thousand dollars," said James Seitz, Team Driven Machinist/Welder, and Lee's Summit Senior. "We need to raise ten thousand more in order to meet the goal."
With its impressive, student designed and built, robot, Team Driven won four different awards this year, which earned the team a place at the FIRST Championship. Now the students make their way to St. Louis but they need help from the Kansas City community in finishing off a fund raising campaign that will get them to the April 22 - 25 event, as contenders for first place.
Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of high school students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. The varsity Sport for the MindTM, FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology.
This year's recycling-themed game, RECYCLE RUSHSM required Team Driven to design and build a robot that stacks totes on scoring platforms, caps those stacks with recycling containers, and properly disposes of pool noodles, representing litter. In keeping with the recycling theme of the game, all game pieces used are reusable or recyclable by teams in their home locations or by FIRST at the end of the season
To help send TeamDriven to St. Louis, join the student managed GoFundMe campaign or learn more.
