TORONTO, ON, May 07, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- You'd be hard pressed to find a horse drinking whisky these days but for the years of 1916-1927 during Ontario's prohibition, horse veterinarians prescribed thousands of gallons of the spirit to the equine population only to have thirsty owners drink it up. Since 2005, Segway of Ontario has been slinging award winning Segway and Walking tours in the Distillery District and are now launching Toronto's first prohibition themed walking tour.
Beginning in the Distillery District, the tour brings patrons through some of the classic structures, to the Mill St. Retail Store for a beer tasting and then back in time to explore the temperance movement that led to prohibition first in Canada and then the United States. Lake Ontario gun battles, gun-toting preachers and the rise of infamous booze magnate Harry Hatch all intertwine in a story that seems too crazy to be true. The tour concludes with a walk through Old Town Toronto and a whisky tasting at the landmark C'est What Pub featuring Toronto Distillery Company's White Rye.
Tours are offered 3 days a week - Tuesday at 7 PM, Thursday at 6 PM and Saturday at 3 PM with 2 minimum and up to 12 maximum members per tour. The cost of the tour (including samples) is $39 + HST. Reservations are required and private group options available. Photo ID may be required for sampling.
