Delphian School Student Wins Paper Gardens Writing Award

    SHERIDAN, OR, May 27, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Paper Garden is a writing and art contest held every year by the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County. The contest invites local children, youth, and adults to submit works of poetry, prose and visual art. The winning pieces are then published in a handmade chapbook.

Delphian student, Malick, entered the Paper Garden's contest in the category of "Youth Short Story" and took home first place The junior was awarded a copy of the chapbook and was invited to read a selection of her story at the award ceremony held at Chemeketa College in McMinnville.

The winning story was titled "In Flew Enza" and described a post-apocalyptic future and a young soldier who used her skills to help those in need.

Cassidy founded the Delphian Writer's Club in 2013 at the local private boarding school. The club was formed to bring students and facility together to create a writing forum for sharing and improving each other's work. The group actively supported Cassidy during the process by giving feedback and also attended the awards ceremony.
