Community Members Helped Raise $3,400+ for Boys & Girls Club in Oxnard

Funds raised during Whole Foods Oxnard Community Support Day

OXNARD, CA, June 04, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As part of its commitment to the communities it serves, Whole Foods Oxnard presented a check for $3,425 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme. The donation represents the proceeds recently raised during the Whole Foods Community Support Day, otherwise known as 5% day, which took place on March 24 at the Oxnard Whole Foods store, 650 Town Center Drive at The Collection in Riverpark.

"The success of our Club is due largely to local supporters, like Whole Foods Market, who help support our efforts to provide our local youth with quality programs that promote healthy physical, educational and social development," said Erin Antrim, BGCOP chief executive officer. "With summer approaching and kids out of school, these funds go a long way in providing our youth with a safe place to spend their time."

Whole Foods Market stores, nationwide, hold Community Support Days several times a year and donate five percent of that day's net sales to a local nonprofit or educational organization. Whole Foods Oxnard has been a participant of this program since it opened in 2013.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme serves 9,200 members annually with an additional 5,100 youth through community activities, sports and special initiatives. Membership fees are $20 a year; however, no child is ever turned away due to financial hardship. Scholarships are available. The Club pays the remaining $500 per year in program fees for each child. Proven to be a worthwhile investment, members of BGCOP have higher graduation rates, lower teen pregnancy and lower crime rates than area youth, resulting in a 1,200 percent return on donor investments.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme exists to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. The Club has served the youth of Oxnard and Port Hueneme for 60 years. With three full-service clubs, 18 school program sites and one housing site, the organization is one of the largest of its kind in California. It's also the first Boys & Girls Club of its kind to open in the Juvenile Justice Center. Program areas offered to youth include character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, technology and sports/fitness/recreation opportunities.
