SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, June 06, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As a firm that promotes a culture of entreprenuership Global Events & Marketing take great interest in what characteristics are common among young entrepreneurs. Most research on youth entrepreneurship relies heavily on the memories of adult entrepreneurs recalling what they were like when they were younger. The flaw with this method is that memories aren't always accurate and can often be prone to paint a better picture that what was the reality, therefore those memories are not realistic and a do no provide a fair representation of the situation.

Founded by the John Templeton Foundation, The Young Entrepreneurs Study took a different approach, bringing together researchers from Tufts and Stanford universities to study over 5,000 college-age individuals. They analysed the participant's career goals, characteristics and life experiences across a span of three years. The young people were asked to describe themselves, and then researchers looked at common traits among those who were seeking to become entrepreneurs.
Findings suggested that aspiring entrepreneurs typically display four key attributes: innovative thinking, self-control, an inclination to take initiative and the presence of entrepreneurial mentors.
1) Creative edge: Innovative thinking was one of the strongest characteristics for predicting entrepreneurial intent. From those studied, 76% of those stated that they were aspiring entrepreneurs displayed high levels of innovative thinking, compared to just 47% of participants who didn't display a strong interest in pursuing entrepreneurship.
2) Drive and control: The participants that identified themselves as aspiring entrepreneurs showed high levels of self-control and strengths such as persistence and initiative. For example, participants who described themselves as "self-starters" were one and a half times more likely to be aspiring entrepreneurs than participants who did not. Participants who reported starting a new club or organisation were nearly twice as likely to be aspiring entrepreneurs as those who didn't participate in such activities.
3) A business mind: Illustrating an early interest in business is also a sign of someone being entrepreneurial minded. An early interest in business also marks aspiring entrepreneurs. From the study, those categorised as being budding entrepreneurs noted they had engaged in entrepreneurial tasks as children, such as mowing neighbors' lawns, and seeking ways to build their business skills as college students. Aspiring entrepreneurs were also twice as likely to have a high level of financial awareness, such as being on the lookout for investment opportunities and being aware of the tax implications related to financial decisions.
4) Close examples of entrepreneurship: A family history of entrepreneurship, or some other contact with entrepreneurs at an early age had a big impact. 45% of the aspiring entrepreneurs revealed they had a parent who had started a business, compared with just 29% of other participants. Follow-up interviews also revealed many of the aspiring entrepreneurs knew family members, family friends or mentors who were entrepreneurs and those individuals had served as role models. The aspiring entrepreneurs relied on these people for emotional and business support and learned valuable lessons from them.
