History Associates Moderates Panel Discussion on Municipal Markets at SEC Historical Society Meeting - Webcast Available

    ROCKVILLE, MD, June 11, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- History Associates Vice President Dr. Kenneth Durr moderated a panel discussion on "The Remaking of the Municipal Market" at the Securities and Exchange Commission Historical Society's 16th Annual Meeting. Since its inception in 1975, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) has evolved in response to changes in the market and in regulatory requirements. Panelists discussing these trends included Marcy Edwards, Vice Chair of the MSRB Board of Directors; Dr. W. Bartley Hildreth, Professor in the Department of Public Management and Policy and former Dean of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University; and Lynn Hume, Washington Bureau Chief for The Bond Buyer, a prominent publication of the municipal bond market.

The panel talked about changing issuer needs and tools and how changes in the marketplace have caused broker-dealers, bond counsel, advisors, and rating agencies to adapt. They also provided insights on the new rules being adopted as a result of the Dodd-Frank Act.

The panel program is part of a new Gallery scheduled to open at the SEC Historical Society's virtual museum and archive at www.sechistorical.org. The Gallery will cover the MSRB and municipal securities regulation and will launch on Dec 1, 2015, in time to honor the MSRB's 40th anniversary.
