SANTA CLARA, CA, June 15, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Alan Frame, dentist in Santa Clara, warns about the potentially harmful effects of soda and fruit juice on your smile. Juice is a breakfast beverage classic. Many people enjoy a glass of orange, apple, or grape juice with their breakfast, or several other juices mixed into a filling smoothie. Soft drinks can also be popular and are sold in cans, bottles, and even in large, refillable cups that can easily be toted from place to place. The ease and convenience of soda make it one of America's most popular drinks. While juice may seem like a healthy alternative, both juice and soda have one thing in common: enamel erosion.
A recent study published in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry affirms his warning. The study found that those who regularly drank soda and juice were more likely to suffer from severe dental erosion. Erosion is a process in which the enamel of the teeth is damaged by acid. As the enamel layer decreases, the sensitive dentin becomes exposed, which can make eating or drinking anything hot or cold extremely painful.
Along with diet soda, regular soda and fruit juice, Dr. Frame, dental crowns dentist, warns against the following foods and drinks:
- Juice-flavored beverages
- Energy drinks
- Fizzy waters
- Sports drinks
- Eating acidic fruits
Milk and fluoridated water are the best drink options for maintaining a health smile. They are not only unlikely to contribute to enamel erosion, but they can actually help strengthen and remineralize enamel. For those who are not ready to give up fruit juice, good alternatives include fruit-infused water, diluted juice and fresh fruit juice. Reducing the frequency of consumption is also necessary.
Dr. Alan Frame works with patients to identify the best ways to protect their teeth. Available treatments include dental bonding, fluoride applications, dental fillings, sealants, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening treatments. Most types of insurance are accepted and can help with overall treatment costs. Financing is also available if your insurance doesn't cover all of it. According to Dr. Frame, "Getting the dental treatment you need is an investment in your health and future appearance. (We) believe that limited financial resources should not prevent you from getting the care you need. We will make every effort to create a financial plan to fit your budget."
