Shark Tank Investors Fighting Over Biotech Scientist's Invention

Investors from Shark Tank Australia invest in the Scrubba Wash Bag

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. The Scrubba wash bag is ingenious in its simplicity and it actually works. This is a serious, exciting business.

VANCOUVER, BC, June 18, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Biotech PhD Ashley Newland has created a product which has some of the top business people in Australia fighting to invest in its future.

Newland invented the world's smallest washing machine, the Scrubba wash bag, and in March 2015 on Shark Tank Australia had Red Balloon founder Naomi Simson, Boost Juice founder Janine Allis and TPG internet founder Steve Baxter all offering to invest in his company.

The reason for their interest is a product that solves the age-old problem of being able to wash your clothes while travelling. The Scrubba wash bag uses no electricity and minimal water, meaning you can have clean clothes anywhere from Edinburgh to Everest. It is a waterproof bag with a flexible internal washboard made up of hundreds of nobules that create friction and clean your clothes thoroughly. And when you're done, you can fold it up and put it in your pocket.

Boost Juice founder Janine Allis is effusive about the potential of the Scrubba wash bag. "Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. The Scrubba wash bag is ingenious in its simplicity and it actually works. This is a serious, exciting business."

Newland was participating in the TV show The Shark Tank and was the first inventor to have three of the 'Sharks' vying to invest in his product. He ended up choosing a co-investment model from Janine Allis and Steve Baxter. Baxter is very vocal about the Scrubba wash bag, saying: "It's a cracker. It's actually one of my best investments ever."

Newland is already exporting the Scrubba wash bag to the US, Asia and Europe and is planning on using the investment to help expand the Scrubba product range.

Ashley Newland received First Class Honours in Biotechnology from Flinders University, Masters in Industrial Property from UTS and his PhD in Medicine from the University of Adelaide. He is also a Patent Attorney. He is currently living in Melbourne.
