BANGOR, ME, June 19, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bangor Federal recognized seven local students with $1,000 scholarships on Wednesday, June 17th at the Hogan Road branch. Each recipient of the Don Soucy Scholarship was picked by their school leaders, and were chosen based on their outstanding community involvement throughout their high school careers.
"We look forward each year to our Scholarship Awards Ceremony," says Mike Sturdee, Director of Marketing at Bangor Federal. "It's great to meet and talk with these young adults who have diligently worked to make a difference in our community. We're sure that they will continue to have a servant's heart wherever the future leads them."
The Don Soucy Scholarship is named after founding member Dennis "Don" Soucy, who served as president of Bangor Federal Credit Union for over 50 years. Mr. Soucy also served three terms as Chair of the Bangor City Council before his passing in 2013. Mr. Soucy's wife Connie attended the scholarship award ceremony on Wednesday.
Some of the ways students got involved in the community included volunteering at local hospitals, organizing fundraising races for the cure, assisting the elderly with outside chores, and serving as a tutor for Bangor elementary schools.
Bangor Federal is always pleased to award individuals who are invested in the community and help make it a better place to live, work, and play. The goal is that these students will help inspire other youth to become involved in community work. That's what Bangor Federal is all about.
Bangor Federal Credit Union is a thriving financial institution with three locations in Bangor and Brewer. While much has changed in the last 50 years, the original mission of the credit union has remained the same - to provide a professional, friendly, personalized, and competitive resource for financial services.
