Auction House To Sell Rare Florida & Georgia Banknotes

    GREENVILLE, SC, June 25, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Manifest Auctions of Greenville, South Carolina will be auctioning two rare 19th century national banknotes as part of their July 11th currency auction. The older of the two is a two dollar first charter note from the First National Bank of Newnan, Georgia. It is the first and only $2 national bank note to be reported for the state of Georgia. It has a presale estimate of $60,000-80,000. Manning Garrett, President of Manifest Auctions, advises that "due to the rarity and the fact that this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire this note, the final sales price could be closer to $100,000."

The other headlining discovery is from the First National Bank of Fernandina, Florida. It dates to 1891 and is the first $10 bill issued by the bank. It was recently discovered in California and this is the first time it has been offered to the collecting public. It is one of just five serial number one 1882 brown backs known for the state of Florida. "The opening bid is just $25,000 with no reserve and we expect the final realization to be a multiple of that starting price," says Garrett.

Other important national bank note discoveries are aces from Central City, Colorado Territory and Atlanta, Georgia. As well as an extremely rare double denomination from Pinckneyville, IL. A 1918 $1000 Federal Reserve Note in VF35 condition with a presale estimate of $20,000-25,000 will likely be the most expensive large sized note. The sale is expected to attract more than 1,000 of the country's most serious collectors and dealers.
