FORT WORTH, TX, July 05, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The National Alliance for Dog Breeding Reform (NADBR) had its first meeting in January in Fort Worth, Texas. At the meeting, it adopted bylaws, elected officers, and applied for a charter as a Texas nonprofit corporation.

"Being formally recognized as a nonprofit corporation in Texas where our founder and CFO reside paves the way towards our plans to be a national nonprofit organization," said Jana Harris, NADBR's VP of Legal. "We have board members and donors throughout the country ready to further our mission," she added

The charter took some extra time to be approved because permission had to be secured from an entity with another entity with similar terms in its name, said CFO Kerri Cook. More than $20,000 was raised from board members, officers and others who came to Fort Worth for the inaugural NADBR meeting.

Since January of this year, membership in the not-for-profit Alliance has increased markedly. Also, a number of veterinarians, dog breeders, entrepreneurs, business executives and dog rescue volunteers from around the country have been recruited to fill key positions. These volunteers are all focused on the NABDR mission: improving dog breeding practices.

In addition to filling staff positions, the Alliance continues to build a following on social media outlets, to recruit volunteers and to assemble a fact-checked wiki of U.S. state and federal dog breeding laws.

The Alliance's Ron Sturgeon said, "To improve dog breeding practices, we are reaching out to all stakeholders in the dog breeding world, including reputable breeders, veterinarians, animal rescue and husbandry experts, and certainly, dog lovers, to elicit their expertise. We are eager to work with them all."
