Dr. Reynolds' interest in ophthalmology was sparked by a surgical intern on Dr. Reynolds' first clinical rotation. The intern suggested ophthalmology as a better choice then general surgery and Dr. Reynolds never looked back. After earning an MD from the University at Buffalo in 1978, he went on to complete a residency in ophthalmology. He subsequently went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at University of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Hospital. Dr. Reynolds first job after his fellowship was as the chief of pediatric ophthalmology at the University of Arkansas, where he remained for five years. In 1988, he was recruited to the University at Buffalo in the same role. In 1997, he was promoted to Chairman of the department.

A passionate member of the profession, Dr. Reynolds stays current with the industry's many changes through his memberships with the American Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology. In recognition of his many significant accomplishments, Dr. Reynolds has recently been inducted into Worldwide Registry. Notably, he has also recently celebrated his 10th anniversary among America's Top Doctors. In the coming years, Dr. Reynolds intends to practice with his son, Drew, who will soon be finishing his fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology. His long-term goal is to continue expanding the department and leaving a legacy in western New York.
