LOS ANGELES, CA, July 09, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Summer Wayans, the gifted radio/TV personality, professional model, public advocate and philanthropist, continues her long commitment to public service, enriching our children's lives and guiding them towards a better future . Summer, a "second generation" member of the iconic Wayans family of film and TV fame, recently helped judge the Los Angeles County Alliance Boys and Girls Clubs' 2015 Youth Of the Year awards, and was subsequently invited to serve on the LA County Advisory Board for the organization. The Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs in the LA Metroplex comprises 27 local Boys & Girls Clubs, whose 140,000 members range in age from 6-18. The Alliance's purpose "is [to be] a unified and collaborative force representing all 27 Clubs with the purpose of securing resources, marketing, and financial support to further the efforts of individual Clubs and increase the impact and reach in their communities". Summer, who is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Psychology, has always taken a keen interest in disadvantaged youth and disenfranchised minorities, including the LGBT community. As a Board Member of the Alliance, Summer brings her extensive experience as a behavioral therapist, counselor, and peer mentor to the fore, enhancing the group's diversity, and helping the Alliance to achieve its goals.
In her new role, Summer was an active participant in the 2015 World Water Monitoring Challenge, a special program designed to teach anyone how to test, monitor, and improve the quality of water in their communities. This July 2 event saw more than 50 members of the Venice Boys & Girls Club travel to the Ballona Wetlands in Playa Vista, to test water quality, collect data, and learn how to improve the quality of their water at home. As a Board Member, Summer will assist the Alliance in making these and other important programs possible, to benefit the youth of the LA Basin. She joins a distinguished roll call of prominent citizens who serve on the Board, including NBC4 Los Angeles VP, NBC4 Communications/Community Affairs Terri Hernandez Rosales,Jon MacDuffie, Managing Partner, On Scene Emergency Management Solutions, WSS/Eurostar President Mark Archer, Pacific Youth Foundation Managing Director Allan Young, Matthew Kanny Partner , Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP and Teresa Samaniego, Director of Public Affairs for ABC7Los Angeles.
