With an impressive professional history dating back an astounding 40 years, Mr. Cranfield now works for Cranfield Geological Services, which provides mining and metals, as well as geological and energy services. Over the course of the past two years as senior geologist and geological consultant, he has utilized his varying expertise in the management of geological projects, geological mapping, mineral exploration, research, coal engineering and surveying.
Determined, hardworking, and dedicated, Mr. Cranfield became involved in his profession because of his interest in the industry. He has received great career advice in the past and also comes from a scientific background. He is most proud of being a part of Geological Maps, as well as taking simple ideas and delivering processes and rapid changes in seamless mapping systems, exploration geochemistry, geochronology, and whole rock geochemistry. Mr. Cranfield is a well-known and accredited chief geologist, and has assisted in high-level decision making on all mining tenures through the Mining Advisory Council.
In addition to his roles with Cranfield Geological Services, Mr. Cranfield also served for a year as an assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong, where he taught geoscience GIS, remote sensing, and air photo interpretation. The role involved managing 10 geoscientists and 23 support staff at the Mineral Resources Authority, undertaking geological mapping, geophysical, geotechnical and hydrogeological contracts, mineral occurrence mapping, the creation of metallogenic maps, and building of strategic geoscience databases.
Mr. Cranfield's achievements have been largely driven by his prior industry experiences and educational background. He received his first bachelor's degree in geology from the University of Queensland in 1970. Seven years later, he earned a second bachelor's degree in geography, French and German from the same institution. Finally, in 1998, he attended James Cook University and earned a Master of Science in geology, remote sensing, geophysics, and databases. In the coming years, Mr. Cranfield intends to continue consulting, as well as assist teachers and help others in their careers.
