With 28 years of experience working in various positions in the financial industry, Ms. Wilson has offered her professional prowess as director of the RFS risk and compliance department at ATB Financial for the last two years. ATB Financial provides a full range of retail financial services including personal accounts, investments, loans, mortgages, and lines of credit. In her position, Ms. Wilson utilizes her expertise in the areas of risk management, leadership, customer relations, and process management to fulfill her professional responsibilities. Her daily duties at ATB Financial entail overseeing operational, regulatory, credit, strategic, financial and reputational risks to reduce exposure. This also includes developing risk management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report line risks, as well as ensuring the unit's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, rating agency standards and strategic imperatives, and overseeing a team of risk professionals within the retail financial risk and compliance realm.
Ms. Wilson prides herself on being detail-oriented, well organized, and skilled in setting priorities. She is very resourceful and self-confident in professional settings, and can always get the job done well. Additionally, she is effective and very persuasive in multiple aspects of the business. Ms. Wilson differs from most professionals in her industry in her choice of leadership strategies. Generally, she prefers to build a rapport and learn a little bit about everyone with whom she works. A recognized risk leader, Ms. Wilson adapts well to and initiates change in her unit and beyond and seeks ways to mitigate risks while also balancing a competitive business advantage. From the start of her career, Ms. Wilson's potential did not go unnoticed. In fact, she attributes her many successes to great mentors who eventually helped her fulfill that potential. She became involved in the risk management industry through her work in the financial industry, which allowed her to develop skills and proficiency while also incorporating her love for education and leadership.
In 1991, Ms. Wilson received a Bachelor of Education in secondary English, concentrating in grades seven through 12, from the University of Calgary. She also received professional certificates in Security Management and Risk Management from the University of Calgary's School of Continuing Education in 2001 and 2014, respectively. Today, she maintains affiliation with the Global Association of Risk Professionals. Ms. Wilson cites the highlight of her career as receiving the President's League Award in May of 2015, an honor given to a small number of exceptional employees each year within ATB Financial. She also received a Volunteer of the Year Award from the Abbeydale Community Association in 2011, and currently serves as the Association's President and was their Treasurer previously. In the future, Mrs. Wilson would like to further continue her education and share her knowledge of risk management with adult learners. She also plans to help others through consulting services.
