Cart Abandonment Technology Helps Nonprofit "Autism Speaks" Increase Donations

In their 2015 Light It Up Blue Campaign, Autism Speaks employed the use of cart abandonment, in this case "donation form abandonment," to recapture interested donors who started to fill out the donation form and left before completing it.

"We were able to recover thousands of dollars in potentially lost donation revenue using the donation abandonment tool." - Peter Pugliese, eFundraising Manager, Autism Speaks

HUNTINGTON, NY, August 18, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The nonprofit Autism Speaks discovered a new way to increase donations using OpenMoves' cart abandonment technology, LassoBack. Cart abandonment is a strategy that has been used in the retail industry for years, but until recently had not been widely tested in the nonprofit industry.

In their 2015 Light It Up Blue Campaign, Autism Speaks used cart abandonment technology to recapture 15% of interested donors who left before completing the donation form.

Peter Pugliese, eFundraising Manager at Autism Speaks, said, "We were able to recover thousands of dollars in potentially lost donation revenue using the donation abandonment tool." The results proved that this strategy has much to offer the nonprofit industry in providing a method to increase donations and registrations by redirecting warm leads and previous visitors back to your site.

While previous Light It Up Blue campaign results were adequate, Autism Speaks wanted to increase donations and registrations by reestablishing rapport with visitors who did not complete the forms on their site. Using LassoBack cart abandonment technology from OpenMoves, they implemented the functionality to reengage donation form abandoners with friendly, timely, and helpful email messages.

The average donation form abandonment rate is 50-70% in the nonprofit industry (npEngage.com). Donation form abandonment campaigns seek to recapture these individuals by remarketing to them through contact information gleaned from partially filled out forms.
