"AFE is a professional organization of 10,000 members and growing..100 years later, AFE continues to be a leader, advocate and voice for facilities world-wide," Wayne Saya, Executive Director
WASHINGTON, DC, August 25, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) will celebrate its 100 year anniversary on September 9th & 10th 2015 along with its membership, members of Congress, federal agencies, corporations, and guests. Since 1915, AFE has brought together professionals who ensure the optimal operation of facilities maintenance and engineering within offices at Fortune 500 manufacturers, universities, medical centers, government agencies and innovative small firms from around the world. And, they all look to AFE as the leading technical resource for maintenance management and facilities engineering issues. AFE's mission is to provide education, certification, technical information and other relevant resources to the facilities professional worldwide.
Today, AFE is a leader in training for Certifications as Professional Maintenance Managers (CPMM), Plant Supervisors (CPS), Plant Engineers (CPE) and Facility Energy Analyst (CFEA). In addition to private industry, AFE customers also include government agencies; such as, the United States Department of State - Bureau of Overseas Building Operations, the United States Department of Energy, the United States Postal Service and the United States Department of Defense.
Since 2012, AFE has trained at Fort Bragg. "On behalf of Fort Bragg, thank you for supporting our troops... over the past two years, 312 participants have enrolled and 296 have completed this certification course with a graduation rate 10% higher than national civilian rates," writes Fort Bragg's Deputy Garrison Commander, "... We look forward to your ongoing and future support of our Soldiers and their families."
AFE has come a long way since that historic day in 1915, when it all began with a dinner hosted by Harry Dennison at the City Club in Boston. In the current technology oriented global economy, the survival of this nation is contingent upon not only being at the leading edge of the new technology, but also making sure that the technology is in use in plants and facilities.
"It is incumbent upon the facilities engineer to keep updating their ability to maintain the technological wonders and in that regard - the Association for Facilities Engineering will continue to be the advocate and voice for facilities world-wide," says the Executive Director of AFE, Mr. Wayne Saya, CPE, CPMM.
Facilities America will feature an AFE centennial celebration, keynote address and luncheon with two comprehensive days of education and hundreds of exhibiting companies to be held September 9th and 10th at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland, organized by Maintenance Shows of America.
The AFE President's Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. The world-class keynote speakers are; Mr. Roger Peterson, President, Business & Industry Facilities Services at Aramark, Ms. Nancy Bechtol, Director, Office of Facilities Engineering and Operations (OFEO) for the Smithsonian Institute, Mr. Stephen Sakach, Deputy Commission Facilities Management and Services Programs, Public Buildings Services at GSA.
The AFE Centennial Program will be held September 10, 2015 beginning at 11:30am at the U. S. Senate's Hart Building on Capitol Hill. This portion of the program was organized by AFE and its Advisors.
The program opening keynote presenter is Mr. Kevin Kampschroer, Director of the Office of Federal High-Performance Green Buildings at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and GSA's Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Climate Adaptation Official. He has devised a challenge for companies to dramatically improve the government's ability to achieve deep retrofits through Energy Savings Performance contracts--which has doubled the amount of energy conservation from these contracts. His team manages the government's implementation of a comprehensive improvement in the training and certification of facility managers and personnel across the entire Federal government (Federal Buildings Personnel Training Act of 2010).
Mr. Kampschroer was the Project Manager for the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center (344 M2). His most recent publication as a contributing author is the first medical study showing the link between building characteristics on office worker stress and heart function-which showed the beneficial results of good lighting, natural light and IEQ. He has worked for GSA for over 39 years and is a graduate of Yale University.
Following a short break, the closing keynote address will be given by Dr. Stefan Deutsch from Israel. Dr. Deutsch will address the security of buildings and infrastructure within the State of Israel - among other related topics, as well as the safety of buildings within Washington, DC. Dr. Deutsch was appointed by the Standards Institute of Israel (SII) as Head of the Israeli delegation to the ISO/PC-277 Committee, which drafts a new international standard on Sustainable Procurement based on the Social Responsibility Standard ISO 26000. The Committee had met in Paris, and in Brazil, and reported progress to the OECD Global Forum on Responsible Business Conduct in Paris as well as in Singapore.
A 2013 retiree from the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD), Dr. Deutsch is the former Director of International Programs and Cooperation in the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D). After retiring, he founded Global Innovation, a research, management consulting and training entity, where he currently serves as Owner.
