Andrea Heckenberg, Ph.D., Recognized as a VIP Member of the Year

Dr. Heckenberg has 23 years of experience in her field, with two years of experience in her current position. Through work in her career, she has become adept in the areas of communication and product management. As a senior content developer, Dr Heckenberg is tasked with creating new online content for Moldflow, a software package that simulates the flow of molten plastic in a mold. She also edits and updates content in the form of video, text or tutorials. Her current company, Autodesk, provides software that helps people imagine, design and create a better world through 3-D design, engineering and entertainment software. Additionally, Autodesk is a charity-based organization through which Dr. Heckenberg volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.

Through hard work, focus and perseverance, Dr. Heckenberg has seen many professional successes in her field. Dr. Heckenberg received her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from The University of Rhode Island in 1992, under the guidance of Dr. Phyllis Brown, and in collaboration with Waters Chromatography. She spent 15 years working in the analytical chemistry industry, initially in the lab, and worked her way into product management. She joined Autodesk when she moved to Australia from California. Dr. Heckenberg cites the highlights of her career as those occasions when she has made a tangible difference to individual customers.

A qualified professional in her field, Dr. Heckenberg received her Bachelor's degree (Hons) in Biological Chemistry from City University London in 1988. As a testament to her industry expertise, she received 3 patent awards in the field of Capillary Electrophoresis, in partnership with Waters, in 1992. She is the author of 1 monograph; HPLC and CE, Principles and Practice (Academic Press 1997), in collaboration with Dr. Brown, and several peer-reviewed articles. She has presented at numerous conferences including HPLC, Pittsburgh Conference, and the IC Symposium. Today, she maintains affiliation with the Technical Writers Industry Association Inc. (TWIA). In the coming years, Dr. Heckenberg intends to remain in content development, and possibly transition into user experience or coding.
