Compass creates the index of the best places in the world for start-ups and innovative small businesses. The results are generated by ranking five key components: funding, market reach, performance, talent and start-up experience. The data for the report comes from a survey of 11,000 start-ups, collected over a span of 5 months. It is supplemented with information from interviews with over 200 entrepreneurs from 25 countries.

Zengo & Co found that one of the most significant findings from the report was that start-up activity has dramatically changed over the last 20 years. Back in 1995 the majority of start-up activity was limited to Silicon Valley and Boston, whereas entrepreneurship is booming worldwide.
