Hastings & Hastings Warns of Inclement Summer Weather

Arizona is safe from many of the world's worst natural disasters. Phoenicians do not have to worry about being caught in a hurricane, washed away by Tsunami, or consumed by an earthquake.

PHOENIX, AZ, September 30, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- However, residents of Arizona do have a few unique weather conditions they must prepare for. Hastings & Hastings warns the population of The Valley of the Sun on the dangers of inclement summer weather.

The most dangerous and the most iconic form of inclement summer weather is the monsoon. The word "monsoon" is derived from the Arabic word "mausim" which roughly means "wind shift." It is clear why this term was applied to the unique storms which take place here in Arizona. Typically they blow in abruptly and with great force. A clear sky can be blotted out by monsoon clouds in the matter of minutes.

Drivers should pay close attention to weather forecasts and keep their eyes on the sky. Monsoons can dump out several inches of rain in the matter of moments. This rain can reduce visibility and negatively impact road conditions. The behavior of other drivers on the road can be impacted as well making their actions less predictable. Further, drivers should avoid driving through large puddles which have gathered on the road. These puddles may be much deeper than they appear. Hundreds of drivers a year are left stranded in stalled out cars after trying to cross puddles and washes they were sure were safe.

Hastings & Hastings warns that monsoons can also contribute to flash flooding. Monsoons produce large quantities of rain in a very short period of time. In areas with low or improper drainage this rain can result in dangerous flash floods. If a flash flood warning has been given people should seek high ground immediately.

Sandstorms add to the list of dangerous summer weather conditions. These sandstorms are sometimes colloquially referred to as "Haboobs," a term borrowed from Arabic. Haboobs are caused be downdrafts of cold air which strike the ground and stir up lose dirt and sand. These downdrafts form massive walls of sand which have been known to travel up to 62 mph. Sandstorms can reduce visibility and cause property damage.

Hastings & Hastings encourages everyone to drive cautiously when experiencing inclement weather. If you are involved in accident as a result of another driver's recklessness or negligence during a bout of inclement weather, you should immediately contact Hastings & Hastings for a free consultation.
