Resa Goldberg and her therapist Dr. Christopher McCarthy encourage women in this radio program that healing and healthy relationships are possible after childhood sexual abuse.
CHARLOTTE, NC, September 10, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In her sophomore year of high school, Resa Goldberg began dating an attractive senior. At first he was charming but within weeks he became very controlling, and after 4-months of dating he physically, emotionally, and sexually assaulted her. For two-years she had to endure this abuse until she was finally able to free herself from him. For years Resa buried the pain and tried to resume a "normal" life. She dated and eventually married. But Resa's mind and body protested her suppression of the abuse. She experienced debilitating migraines, nightmares, and struggled with addictive behaviors. She was terribly unhappy and determined it was time to get help.
She began working with Christopher McCarthy, PhD of Carolinas Counseling Group and Turnaround Anxiety. Dr. McCarthy specializes in the treatment of anxiety, child and teen behavioral issues, and the recovery of childhood traumas. Ms. Goldberg worked with Dr. McCarthy for several years and attended Al Anon on a regular basis. Through her hard work, Resa gained understanding, acceptance, wisdom in dating, and finally peace.
Resa, an writer and editor, has told her story in her new memoir 'Love Me Madly'. Through this book and speaking engagements on TV, radio, and community groups, Resa hopes to help other young women protect themselves from abuse or recover from dating and marital abuse.
Ms. Goldberg and Dr. McCarthy recently had the opportunity to discuss abuse and recovery on WFAE's Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins (09/03/2015). You can hear the interview by clicking on this link. Contact them if you would like to interview them for your publication, radio program, or podcast.
