LOS ANGELES, CA, September 10, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Soteria Intelligence is pleased to announce that the company's Founder and CEO, Aaron Schoenberger, has published an article on LinkedIn highlighting the seriousness of social media threats against schools as well as strategies to combat threats and what we can expect in the future.
We are living in a world where social media threats have become commonplace and hundreds of threats have been made against educational institutions in the past year. And unfortunately, some have resulted in catastrophes.
Additionally, aside from threats aimed at students or school personnel, there's a new breed of threats originating in schools that are wreaking havoc elsewhere. For example, the "purge" students in Baltimore organized via social media that caused violence to break out resulting in riots, numerous injuries, and millions of dollars in property damage.
The problem is that schools lack the expertise and technology needed to effectively monitor social media channels for specific threats and they must take a more proactive approach to threat assessment. "Looking at a sampling of 100 random threats, I found that over 70% of such threats were proactively reported to schools or local law enforcement by students, their parents or concerned citizens," stated Mr. Schoenberger. This should be the other way around.
The article he posted, titled Schools Feel The Wrath of Social Media Threats, is intended to boost awareness and help parents and administrators create the safest environment possible for students.
