PHILADELPHIA, PA, September 13, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philadelphia labor, employment and workers' compensation firm Willig, Williams & Davidson is pleased to announce that Ryan Hancock was honored as the August 2015 "Pro Bono Partner of the Month" by the Public Interest Law Center.
Hancock, who is of counsel and chair of the firm's Employment Law group, is also co-founder and current board chair of the Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity.
"Willig, Williams & Davidson has established a proud tradition of providing pro bono legal services to those in need," said Managing Partner Deborah R. Willig. "Promoting equal justice for all and encouraging volunteerism are important parts of our firm's culture, and it's gratifying to see Ryan's commitment to public service recognized by an organization as esteemed as the Public Interest Law Center."
"Working with the Public Interest Law Center enables me to think deeply about using the traditional legal system for systemic change," Hancock said. "That kind of thoughtfulness and introspection is an important element of the culture here at Willig, Williams & Davidson, and it's part of why I joined this firm. That decision has paid dividends for me professionally, but also for my pro bono clients. I'm humbled and honored to have that work acknowledged publicly."
An experienced employment law attorney, Hancock is a passionate advocate for working people who have suffered discrimination in the workplace. He counsels and represents clients in matters relating to sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and whistleblower actions, wrongful termination, employee benefits, overtime and wage and hour concerns, and employment agreements, including contract negotiation, non-compete agreements, and severance.
Before joining Willig, Williams & Davidson, he was assistant chief counsel of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Commonwealth's civil rights enforcement agency. As assistant chief counsel, Ryan successfully litigated a wide range of discrimination matters including claims based upon sexual orientation, religious accommodation, disability, race, sex, and denial of employment based on a criminal record
The pro bono work of Willig, Williams & Davidson has garnered the firm repeated recognition by Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program (VIP). The firm is a three time recipient (2009, 2012, 2015) of the William J. Brennan Award, the highest honor bestowed by Philadelphia VIP, the hub of pro bono services in the city.
