"Society tends to marginalize older people, particularly women, who aren't seen as either desirable or valuable."
WINCHESTER, VA, September 14, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- While many romance novels and contemporary fiction have featured rock stars as the objects of women's desire, few, if any, have had characters old enough to be grandparents. Kathleen Duhamel's debut novel, ]Deep Blue, breaks with tradition to feature a 58-year-old heroine who falls for a 60-something rock singer, crushing cultural stereotypes of older people as "senior citizens."
The story revolves around struggling Denver artist Claire Martin, whose chance meeting with legendary singer Robert Silver of the band Deep Blue results in a passionate love affair set in Denver, New York and New Orleans. Robert is a charming man with a troubling past. When his personal demons resurface on tour, threatening both his voice and the band's future, Claire must decide how much of a risk she's willing to take to be with the man she loves.
Duhamel's characters are smart, funny, and they know what they want out of life: love, sex and a lasting relationship.
"They may be getting near retirement age, but they're still vital individuals who haven't given up on love and romance," she said. "Society tends to marginalize older people, particularly women, who aren't seen as either desirable or valuable. I wrote Deep Blue as a love letter for my women friends because I couldn't find a compelling romantic story featuring baby boomer characters."
Duhamel lived in Colorado from 1980 to 2014, when she moved to northern Virginia. Deep Blue, the first book in a planned trilogy, is published by Imajin Books. It is available in e-book and soft cover format on Amazon, and soft cover on Createspace.
