BALTIMORE, MD, September 19, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Hip Hop Caucus - People's Climate Music "Act On Climate" Bus Tour is scheduled to stop in Baltimore on September 21- 22, 2015 to increase awareness about the impact of pollution and climate change on urban communities. The Tour hopes to educate and empower those in urban communities to become leaders, advocates, and spokespeople on issues of pollution and climate change.
The Baltimore tour stop will begin with a stellar red carpet welcome reception, as a Special Edition of "Industry Mondays" on September 21, 2015 at 9 p.m., at the Red Maple Lounge, located at 930 N Charles Street Baltimore MD 21201. A host of celebrity guest, tastemakers, and community leaders who support this nationwide initiative, will attend this premier event. On Tuesday September 22nd, the tour will host rallies at Benjamin Franklin High School and Morgan State University School of Communications and Journalism, led by Hip Hop Caucus Founder Reverend Lenox Yearwood. The rallies are to engage students, on topics such as pollution, climate change and other environmental issues that affect urban communities. These talks will wrap up with a segment to brainstorm strategies for organizing and taking action to implement change through advocacy and legislation in communities of color. "There are many problems that affect low income communities of color, climate change is just one. Educating and organizing the members of our community to act on this and other important issues is how we begin to empower ourselves," says Frank Johnson, ambassador for the Baltimore Hip Hop Caucus chapter. The tour will conclude with a town hall-style meeting at Morgan State University School of Global Communications and Journalism where public officials, thought leaders, residents, celebrity guests and tastemakers will discuss these environmental issues and their impact on Baltimore City residents.
The Hip Hop Caucus is a national non-profit and non-partisan organization that connects the Hip Hop community to the civic process to build power and create positive change. The Peoples Climate Music "Act On Climate" campaign, is an initiative developed by the Hip Hop Caucus in partnership with Earth Justice, The National Resource Defense Council, The Sierra Club, The Solutions Project, 350.org and The League of Conservation voters. This campaign's goal is to educate and empower those in underserved, low-income communities about how climate change affects their communities. Pollution and changes in climate are disproportionately impacting people of color in low-income, communities with higher risks of respiratory disease, higher prevalence of asthma and other heart-related issues. Also, pollution and resulting climate change, could contribute to extreme weather events, like Hurricane Katrina, Super Storm Sandy, heat waves and droughts. The tour began August 29, 2015, at the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans Louisiana, continuing on to cities across the country during the month of September. The final stop on the tour will be in Tempe, Arizona at the "Summer's End Music Festival", on September 27, 2015. Tour events include; concerts, rallies, block parties, lectures, and community and town hall meetings.
