Los Angeles Consumer Protection Attorney Howard Silver Now Accepting Volkswagen Emissions Cases

The software installed by Volkswagen was used to "[trick] regulators into believing that four-cylinder diesel cars comply with emissions standards," according to USA Today. In reality, the vehicles were emitting pollutants at rates of up to 40 times higher than the amounts allowed by regulations.

Vehicles with the deceptive software include four-cylinder diesel models of the 2014 and 2015 Volkswagen Passat, as well as models from 2009 to 2015 of the Audi A3, Beetle, Jetta and Golf, also with four-cylinder diesel engines. The automaker is expected to issue a recall, and could face a fine of up to $18 billion from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
