Hastings & Hastings Supports Child Passenger Safety Week in the Valley

    PHOENIX, AZ, October 23, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- It is a common belief that all an individual needs to do to keep their child safe in the car, is to secure them in a child safety seat. This is a crucial step, but it is one among many. Hastings & Hastings supports Valley police forces as they begin child passenger safety week.

It has been reported by the Glendale Police Force, that a child is involved in a vehicle collision approximately once every 34 seconds. Even minor collisions, which might be of little danger to adults, could prove fatal for children. It is vital that parents educate themselves on child passenger safety.

Proper car seat installation is one of the most important steps in child passenger safety. AAA Arizona officials have stated that a majority of car seats are in fact installed incorrectly. The types of installation mistakes are highly varied. Placing the car seat in the wrong spot of the car is one of the most common mistakes. Car seat owners should always consult the installation manual when first putting a car seat in the car. They should never assume they know how to properly install a seat.

Reclining a child at an incorrect angle is another common mistake made by parents. This mistake could also prove deadly. The proper angle of recline changes with age. Once again, parents should always consult the car seat manual whenever they have any questions. If the manual is not clear, or does not offer an answer, they should call the manufacture of the car seat.

Cristy Robinson, a car seat technician by trade, has stated "three out of four car seats aren't installed properly. That could be one minor detail or three or four things that are wrong with it."

Valley officers encourage parents to double check that child passengers are properly buckled into their car seats. It is not enough that children are just placed in the car seat, even if it is a reclining, rear-facing model. Child passengers must be buckled in.
