Debbie M. Schaum has been Named a Professional of the Year in Meteorological Education

    ORMOND BEACH, FL, October 12, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Debbie M. Schaum, Associate Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Meteorological Education. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only small selections of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.

With more than two decades in education, Ms. Schaum's experience is in teaching aviation and meteorology. As associate professor, she is tasked with creating a curriculum that melds real-life situations into her program, focusing on weather for air crews.

A retired major in the United States Air Force, Ms. Schaum's success comes from her own experience. Having been a member of ROTC, she entered the Air Force as a meteorologist. Understanding the challenges facing students, and women in particular, in the field, she has been inspired to help others. Knowing that a well-rounded education starts early, Ms. Schaum works with middle school students to get them interested in math and science subjects. She has also been vocal on the role of women in science professions, helping to open doors for them within aviation and meteorology. Ms. Schaum plans to continue educating young minds at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and expand her own by pursuing a Ph.D. in aviation.

Ms. Schaum received a master's degree in management from Webster University and a Bachelor of Science in atmospheric sciences from the University of Missouri System, Columbia. Aside from her work with students, she is a volunteer and mentor to foster children and the physically challenged.
