ST. LOUIS, MO, October 14, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Peter A. Seligmann, Chairman and CEO of Conservation International, will be the featured speaker at the annual Donald Danforth Plant Science Center SEEDS of CHANGE event. Hosted by members of the Danforth Center's Leadership Council, the event on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 will begin with a reception at 7:30 a.m. and continue with Seligmann's presentation, BOTTOM LINE: The Conservation Imperative, at 8:00 a.m. at the Danforth Plant Science Center, 975 N. Warson Road.
Since co-founding the global nonprofit organization in 1987, Seligmann has pioneered innovative partnerships with governments, communities and business to protect nature and work to find solutions for environmental problems that will impact all of humanity. He has guided Conservation International under the principle that we need to protect nature in order to meet the needs of food, freshwater and livelihoods on which humanity depends.
"Our societies cannot thrive if our ecosystems continue to deteriorate, so saving the planet is really about saving ourselves," said Seligmann. "By keeping humans in focus in the conservation process, we'll not only ensure that we're protecting earth's beauty but also its bounty--food, water, a stable climate, medicines--for the future."
Under Seligmann's leadership, Conservation International has become a cutting-edge leader in valuing and sustainably caring for nature for the well-being of people.
Seligman serves on the advisory council for the Jackson Hole Land Trust and is a Director at Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder Holdings, Inc. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Coca-Cola Company's International Advisory Committee. Peter was also named to the Enterprise for the America's Board by President Clinton in 2000.
He began his career in 1976 with The Nature Conservancy, serving as the organization's western region land steward, and later became the director of the California Nature Conservancy. He holds a Master of Science in Forestry and Environmental Science from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology from Rutgers University. Peter has Honorary Doctorates in Science from Michigan State University and Rutgers University.
