WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND, October 16, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Charlson Browne, a Self-Employed Artist, has been named a Worldwide Branding Professional of the Year in Fine Art. While inclusion in Worldwide Branding is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Worldwide Branding membership.
Michael Browne has 50 years of professional experience, with 29 years as a self-employed artist. He works with oil colors to create predominantly abstracted landscapes. A visual artist, Michael Browne's work is influenced by the impressions and sensations he experiences as he is out walking or on one of his frequent runs around the stunning bays of Wellington Harbour. He then sits in his studio and reflects on the things that he has seen, at which point the ideas begin to form. Looking back, Michael Browne attributes his success to the influence of his mother and teachers, as well as being in an environment where art is seen, shown and appreciated. Both of his parents were passionate and professional painters and this influenced him greatly. Michael Browne's mother, Ruth D. Browne was one of New Zealand's leading painters in the 1960's and he is in the process of developing a retrospective of her work to be held in Wellington's New Zealand Academy of Fine Art in February 2016.
Michael Browne has been through a variety of distinct periods in his artistic career, moving between figurative and abstract. Current abstract work is derived from an emotional and intellectual response to his environment.
Michael Browne has exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions. He has had 25 one-man shows at commercial galleries, and has undertaken many portrait commissions. His work is held in many private and public collections including The Stuyvesant Foundation in Amsterdam and Te Papa Tongarewa, The Museum of New Zealand.
Michael Browne studied at The University of Canterbury New Zealand, The Royal College of Art London and went on to complete apprenticeships in printmaking at S.W. Hayter Etching Atelier Paris in 1959 and Rijksakademie Amsterdam in 1960. Michael Browne taught for many years at the Chelsea School of Art in London. He is an elected member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Contemporary Portrait Society UK. In the coming years, Michael Browne intends to continue painting and exhibiting.
