McKenzie Holland Share Their Step-by-Step Guide to Effective Goal Setting

McKenzie Holland are strong believers in the notion of goal setting to aid success. Here, the firm outlines their step-by-step guide to effective goal setting.

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, October 21, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- McKenzie Holland are confident that for entrepreneurs goal setting is a key factor to success. Without setting goals entrepreneurs could potentially lose sight of what they were aiming for when they first started a project and then veer off course which could mean that they miss vital stages of their plan. The firm believes that the best entrepreneurs regularly evaluate their goals to make sure they are on course to reach them and then to add new ones. "Every goal reached is an open door for new goals," highlights the firm.

Here, McKenzie Holland have used inspiration from public speaker, Michael Hyatt to outline their guide to step by step goal setting:

Keep them few in number
Productivity studies prove that people can't really focus on more than 5-7 items at any one time. McKenzie Holland says that including too many goals in the plan is a recipe for disaster. "You will lose focus and accomplish very little," highlights the firm. Instead, McKenzie Holland suggests focusing on a handful of goals that individuals can repeat from memory.

Make them "smart"
McKenzie Holland highlights that smart is an acronym and that smart goals must meet five criteria:

Specific- Your goals must identify exactly what you want to accomplish in as much specificity as you can muster.

Measurable - If possible, try to quantify the result. You want to know absolutely, positively whether or not you hit the goal.

Actionable - Every goal should start and finish with an action verb. For example: quit, run, finish, eliminate, etc. rather than a to-be verb, e.g. am, be, have, etc.

Realistic - A good goal should stretch you but there should be an element of common sense involved. McKenzie Holland believes if you are not out of your comfort zone you are not thinking big enough.

Time-bound - Every goals needs a date associated with it. When do you plan to deliver on that goal? Make sure every goal ends with a to-do by date.

Write them down
There is a huge power in writing goals down, even if an action plan is never developed to go with them. "When you write something down, you are stating your intention and setting things in motion," reveals McKenzie Holland.

Review them frequently
The real power of goal setting comes from reviewing them on a regular basis. By reviewing goals ask yourself "what's the next step I need to take to move toward this goal?" "How often you review them is up to you," states McKenzie Holland. The key is to let them inspire and populate your daily task list.

Share them selectively
Telling someone your goals makes them less likely to happen. McKenzie Holland believes that you should only tell someone your goals if they are committed to helping you reach them.

McKenzie Holland advises goal setting within their firm and encourages their individuals to set their own personal and business goals in order to continuously improve.
